About me

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Willkommen, bienvenue and welkom. In this blog I will be writing about my experience as a Blue Book Stagiaire at the European Commission in Brussels. I am originally from Scotland, so post-Brexit this is a very interesting time to be here…

General Background

I grew up near Glasgow and did a BA in languages at Oxford, before moving to Berlin in January 2012. (I cannot recommend Berlin highly enough for fun, vibrancy, history and cuisine.) I moved from Berlin to Amsterdam to do an MA in European Studies in August 2014, and worked for a year there after graduating.

In October 2016 I moved from Amsterdam to Brussels to start a traineeship (stage) at the European Commission. This had always been a long-term goal of mine. What cruel fate it was, that this goal was finally achieved just as the Brexit hounds were released onto the international stage. Brexit is very much the dog-turd on the lawn here in Brussels.

These are thus the observations of an embattled émigré Remainer. Follow me for insights into the view on Brexit from Brussels, to find out what our former fellow European friends think of it all, and ultimately to look on plaintively as Brexit makes this world of ours a little bit shittier, a day at a time.
